Carey Mulligan Talks ‘Beef’ Season 2 Themes

Carey Mulligan, speaking to the BBC about his “Beef” season 2, said that the age difference between the two main couples creates a “mutual contempt”, adding that the gap is important to the story. He said: “They can’t stand us, and we can’t stand them. Everything they do is annoying, especially after the inciting incident of the whole show. We have a common enemy in them, and that’s how we are together. He also explained that the middle couple’s close relationship is partly held together by their resentment towards the Gen Z couple, who seem to have everything going for them.He added: “Their relationship is really hanging by a thread, and it’s really their mutual disdain for this Gen Z couple, and all the things about them that are annoying that bind us together.”Oscar Isaac also spoke about the show, saying, “That really rubs us the wrong way. It’s also a cynicism that we have about our view of love: all these plans and things that seem so sure, when they haven’t experienced the real debt of being in a relationship.” Mulligan also revealed that she and Isaac often teased their younger co-stars about being the show’s “Gen Z” couple. He said: “We were always trying to find ways to annoy them. We used to call them ‘kids’, which seems unfair I think Charles is 33 years old.’
