A collaboration between legendary filmmakers Adoor Gopalakrishnan and megastar Mammootty He is creating a lot of buzz in the cine circles for his upcoming film ‘Padayatra’. However, in a departure from the standard superstar release, new reports suggest that the film may eschew a wide theatrical release in favor of a specialized distribution strategy. The project marks the first time the pair have worked together since their National Award-winning collaborations in the early 90s. Recent reports suggest a possible change in strategy, with discussions moving towards a direct OTT release.

According to the latest reports shared by Reporter website, ‘Padayatra’ may follow the usual theatrical route for release. Instead, the makers are considering a digital release after screening the film at major festivals. Such a strategy can position the film for critical appreciation before it reaches a wider audience online. However, until now there has been no official confirmation from the authorities regarding this development.

Earlier, it was reported that the film will adapt Thakazhi’s novel ‘Randidangazhi’. However, the official poster hints at a different creative direction for the project.The story, screenplay and dialogues are credited to Adoor Gopalakrishnan and KV Mohankumar.
Fourth collaboration with Adoor Gopalakrishnan
‘Padayatra’ is the fourth time that Mammootty and Adoor Gopalakrishnan are working together. His previous collaborations included classics like ‘Anantaram’, ‘Vidheyan’ and ‘Mathilukal’, all of which received critical acclaim.In ‘Mathilukal’, Mammootty portrayed Vaikom Muhammad Basheer with great depth and measure.In ‘Vidheyan’, he played Bhaskara Pattelar, which is considered to be one of his finest performances. Mammootty’s performance in ‘Vidheyan’ won him a National Award, and the film also received a State Award.Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s last directorial venture was ‘Pinneyum’ starring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan, released in 2016. The film received mostly mixed reviews.On the other hand, Mammootty has the most awaited starrer ‘Patriot’, which will release on May 1. She will join Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara and many others in the Mahesh Narayanan actioner.
