When this happened to us, I thought we were the only people. These things don’t bother me anymore.”

Theron, now 50, recalled the incident when she was just 15 years old. She said her mother, Gerda Jacoba Aletta Martiz, had returned home after visiting a relative when tensions flared with her father, Charles Theron. Recounting the chain of events that led to the shooting at her home, she said she “knew something bad was going to happen.”

According to Theron, her father “entered the house,” “shooting through the steel doors, making it very clear that he was going to kill us.”“The message was very clear: ‘I’m going to kill you tonight. You think I can’t get in this door? Look at me. I’m going to go to the safe. I’m going to take the shotgun,'” he said.

The actress also described the moment her mother responded, stating that both her father and another man present had been shot. “My brother ran down the hall, and he shot a bullet down the hall, it ricocheted seven times and shot him in the hand. It’s stuff you can’t explain. And then he followed my dad, who was already opening the safe to get more guns, and shot him.”Authorities eventually ruled the shooting an act of self-defense, and Gerda Martiz was not charged.After the shooting, Theron said her mother sent her to school the next morning. “He said, ‘We’re going to go ahead.’ It’s not necessarily the healthiest, but it worked for us.”
