His Iron Man character and his death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ had a huge emotional response. Thus, the announcement that he would return as a new character in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was a big surprise and a moment of celebration for fans. The team behind the superhero movie recently shared their experience of bringing back the iconic actor, but this time in a villainous role.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige, the president of the studios behind the Marvel universe, revealed that the possibility of the ‘Iron Man’ actor’s return was never on the cards. He revealed in his interview that even after ‘Endgame’, they were in touch with the actor for the longest time for possible future roles.While Iron Man dies in ‘Endgame’, making his return a non-viable option, he had a completely contrasting role. “It’s ingrained in the fabric of the MCU for obvious reasons, and we would talk about when and how and if there could be a return,” Feig shared. Planning for his comeback began 3 1/2 years ago.The studio team revealed that they wanted to bring the MCU’s most iconic villain, Dr. Victor Von Doom, to the big screen and felt that Downey was the perfect choice to do so. Adding context to why they were chosen, Feige added, “At the time, [Downey] Oppenheimer was on his way to winning an Oscar and there were all these stories about “the greatest actor in the world,” and we thought, “This could be it. Let’s do it. It is our universe. It’s a multiverse. We can do what we want. He played the most iconic hero. Let’s let him play the most iconic villain.’‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will be released in theaters in December this year. The cast includes Chris Evans, who will reprise his role as Captain America for the first time since ‘Endgame’. These include ‘Avengers’, ‘Black Panther’, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, ‘Thunderbolts*/New Avengers’, ‘The Fantastic Four’ and the original ‘X-Men’.
