Results from Resume Now’s A.I Oversight Gap Report suggests that while workplaces are embracing AI, they’re also starting to lean a little too comfortably on it.
A growing dependency, a fading double check
The numbers point to a subtle but significant shift. About 35% of workers say they only sometimes, or rarely, review AI-generated content before using it. For a technology that is still capable of errors and confident mistakes, that level of trust is critical.This is not outright negligence. It’s a slip away from the pauses that once defined careful work. Habits of checking, questioning, and improvisation are slowly being abandoned—or handed over with the work.Dig deeper, and the pattern becomes clear: 18% say they generally accept AI output as is, while another 17% only take a closer look if something feels off. In other words, scrutiny is no longer the norm, it’s reactive.
From tool to everyday companion
AI is no longer something that people use occasionally, it is now part of the way things are done. The report shows that 52% of employees rely on AI to some extent during their workweek. For 19%, it takes up more than a quarter of their time, while another 33% use it for up to a quarter of their tasks. It’s no longer an experience, it’s a total integration.AI now drafts, summarizes, structures and recommends with ease. But while its role has expanded rapidly, the systems guiding its use have not kept up.
The rise of “work slop”.
There’s even a new term doing the rounds: work slop, AI-generated content that passes without proper vetting. It’s not always clearly wrong, but it can feel a little off, missing context, nuance, or accuracy.The biggest problem is inconsistency. While 65% of workers say they review AI output regularly, 40% every time and 25% most of the time, the remaining 35% apply much less scrutiny.This creates uneven standards. Two people using the same tool can produce very different results, not because of the AI, but because of how carefully they evaluate it. Over time, this inconsistency erodes trust within teams and affects the reliability of day-to-day work.
Using AI
One of the more telling insights is not how often AI is used, but how quietly. About 40 percent of workers say they use AI tools at work, but 15 percent admit they do so without telling their managers. Only 25% say their use is openly discussed within teams.This silence speaks volumes.
